Emily is the Chair of Junior Golf Clubs Cancer (JGCC), a fundraiser started by her family and friends at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club in 2004 as a way to make a difference in the lives of families affected by pediatric cancer.
JGCC originally began collecting donated golf clubs and selling them to retail golf stores and on Ebay to raise funding for pediatric cancer research. The golf clubs that could not be resold were donated to the First Tee Program of Montgomery County, benefiting junior golf!
The staff and membership at Whitemarsh Valley was completely supportive of this initiative, and allowed JGCC to add on an additional Adult-Junior Golf Tournament in 2007. Many more club members and friends joined in the efforts by playing in or sponsoring this event!
JGCC hosted tournaments each year from 2007-2012 until a new idea sparked in order to increase participation and attract more young children! In 2013, JGCC hosted its first annual Fun Night! This event was SO successful we decided to do it again in 2014!
Since 2004, JGCC has raised over $200,000 for pediatric cancer research and support of families who are dealing with these diseases. St. Christopher's Foundation for Children in Philadelphia and the Ronald McDonald House there have been our main beneficiaries, as well as the George Fund and individual families. In addition, JGCC has donated over 2,500 golf clubs to the First Tee Program in support of junior golf and promoting the game.
